goodbye to acrylics
After a year and 2 months of having acrylic nails (with burgandy nail polish) I have decided to take them off and not replace them. They have kind of been my signature "this is me" thing... espcially the polish. Abby has always said I should get pink or orange or something. People are always telling me my nails look elegant, but I have decided I am tired of the time and money it takes to maintain them. So... today.... off they come. It will be a shock because I have had them so long and I hate my fingers without them because I have such short fingers and terrible nails. Maybe I have just been vain. I don't know, but I am ready to try it without them for a while.

Way to go! Believe it or not, I know it's a hard thing to do, especially since you have had them so long. I remember Kathy had a hard time saying goodbye to them, because she loved her fake nails. (Sorry Kathy! Hope you don't mind!) But it does save a lot of money. Maybe you can still get an occasional manicure, just without the fake nail part!
I do know how you feel. It was a little hard for me too, but it helped me realize I'm still me without them. You'll be glad about the money you're saving too. Someday when I have lots of money I might go back to "french manicures" because I did like them a lot. But for now, there are a lot of us Earl descendents whose hands have the short, stubby look!
I think your hands look nice both ways, and I can see how you'll miss what you've been doing. I did it once for my wedding and am not about to repeat it. I feel function-less. It' harder for me to adjust to them to play piano, type, dishes, anything, pretty much. I'm glad, most of all, that you're happy with your decision. Good for you!
I did them for my wedding too. Ouch! My nails were thin to begin with, but they got roughened up and the nails applied. Then I got them redone and they filed the tops again! When I took those off my nails had huge cracks across the top. They took weeks to heal and get thick enough to stop hurting. Never again!
But I did like the look...
I really liked mine, couldn't take the time and money though. I was in pain for a long time because my nails were so thin...Oh well.
